Clean energy funding, matched to the communities that miss it

Turn public clean energy funding into finished local projects.

America committed historic money to clean energy. The communities that need it most are the least equipped to claim it. NexVerde closes that gap. We find the funding a town or school can win, show what it takes to be ready, and help them get projects built.

Prototype. Some data is still being verified.

The problem we solve

The money exists. The execution doesn't.

Claiming that funding takes staff to run the numbers, structure the financing, navigate the rules, and carry an application across the finish line. Small and mid-sized communities rarely have it, so the money goes to the places that do.

NexVerde analysis of Massachusetts DOER Green Communities announcements, Sept 2023 to Aug 2026. As of October 2026.

When small towns win, they win big: about $42 per resident, compared with about $7 in larger towns. But half of them got no Green Communities grant at all in three years. That's the gap we close. We help the towns that are missing out get to the starting line, ready to compete.

What we do

Match. Ready. Deliver.

For municipalities, school districts, and public agencies with no grant staff of their own, we take you from eligible to submission-ready, then connect the funded project to the partners who build it.

1

Match

We profile your community, then run it against the live universe of federal, state, and utility programs and the real eligibility rules behind each. You get the programs you can win, not everything you might qualify for.

You get: a ranked shortlist with award ranges, deadlines, and match requirements.
2

Ready

We assess readiness across five pillars (data, planning, capacity, governance, engagement), build the numbers that persuade a reviewer, and write the application to the funder's scoring rubric.

You get: a readiness score, your baselines built, and a competitive application.

See how we build the numbers →

3

Deliver

We help you understand what the project needs, so your team or your engineer can define it. When your project is funded and you're ready to build, we help you understand the procurement steps your funder requires. You run your own bid. Once your bid is public, we let qualified firms know it's open. We track milestones and funder reporting from award to construction.

You get: a fair, public bid with qualified firms invited to compete.

Every step runs on Grid-Ready, our matching and readiness engine. It scores a community against the programs it can realistically win, using real eligibility rules and award data, then builds the numbers underneath: utility data, load profiles, benchmarked baselines, and a savings, cost and emissions model a reviewer can check. That is what makes the match sharper, the readiness real, and the delivery scope credible.

Match — find the funding you can actually win

What the shortlist is built from
  • Build your funding profile: buildings, energy spend, region, income level, prior awards, and designations like Green Community status.
  • Score each program by how competitive you are on real eligibility and award data, not just whether you qualify.
  • Name a recommended first target, not only the list.

How we build the numbers.

Every number traces back to a bill, a public record or a funder's own calculator.

1

Gather

With your permission, read-only access to your MassEnergyInsight account, plus any utility bills it's missing.

2

Baseline

Energy use and cost per building, compared with similar buildings.

3

Model

Savings, payback and a funding stack showing grant, incentive and local share.

4

Emissions

Tons of CO2e avoided, using EPA's eGRID factors for the New England grid.

5

Check

Baselines matched to real bills, and every number reviewed by a second person.

6

Package

The numbers presented the way the funder scores them.

Who we serve

Two sides of the same project.

On one side, the public institutions that need clean energy and can't chase the funding alone. On the other, the firms that engineer and build it. NexVerde connects them, and does the work in the middle that makes the project real.

Communities

Municipalities, school districts & public agencies

The public bodies that own the buildings, carry the energy bills, and qualify for the funding, but rarely have the staff to go get it. We work alongside your staff.

  • Municipalities: town and city halls, DPW and public works, water and wastewater plants, libraries, public safety, garages, streetlights, and fleets
  • School districts: K-12 schools, admin buildings, and bus depots
  • Agencies & authorities: public housing, water and sewer districts, transit, and regional agencies

The firms that engineer and build

A funded, ready-to-build public project is expensive to source. When a funded community posts a bid, you hear about it fast, with the funding picture attached.

  • EPCs, solar developers, and installers
  • ESCOs, electrical, and mechanical / HVAC contractors
  • MEP and civil engineers, controls integrators, EV installers, and O&M providers

Massachusetts sent $8.1 million to 57 towns in one Green Communities round this year. We track which towns show up in public award records, what those records say they plan to build, and when their public bids open.

We're running a research pilot with a few Massachusetts installers this fall.

The engineering work behind the funding
Named precisely, so the funding match and the public bid are clear.

Generate

Rooftop, ground-mount, and carport solar PV.

Store & harden

Battery storage, solar-plus-storage, and microgrids for resilience.

Electrify & heat

Air and ground-source heat pumps, heat pump water heaters, and HVAC.

Tighten & optimize

Weatherization, LED lighting and controls, and building automation.

Move

EV charging, and municipal and school fleet electrification.

Public works

Water and wastewater efficiency, and streetlight conversion.

Plan & prove

Energy audits, benchmarking, feasibility, and interconnection studies.

What the community list leaves out

Also on the municipal side

Senior and community centers, and infrastructure the town owns outright, such as parking areas.

Why schools are strong candidates

A school's energy use matches solar's production almost perfectly, and every dollar saved on energy is a dollar freed for classrooms. Athletic facilities sit in the same building stock.

The agencies most often skipped

Public housing authorities, regional water and sewer districts, transit agencies, and regional planning agencies. They are the most likely to be overlooked and the most likely to serve high-need communities.

What they give back

Their profile and their project outcomes. That is what makes Grid-Ready smarter. Match, Ready, and the path to their own public bid stay at no cost to the community.

For delivery partners

Hear about public clean energy bids when they open.

Massachusetts sent $8.1 million to 57 towns in one closed Green Communities round. Town records often do not say who installed the work. We use public award records and public bid notices: which communities received public awards, what those records say they plan to build, and when their public bids open.

Funding signals

Which towns show up in public award data for state and federal clean energy programs.

Project type

Solar, heat pumps, EV charging, efficiency and more, so you only see work you do.

Bid timing

Early notice when a funded community's public bid opens, at the same time as everyone.

Built only from public data. We never share a client's private plans, and every firm gets public bid notices at the same time.

Our approach

How NexVerde Works

NexVerde runs on Grid-Ready. It scores a community against every clean energy program it can realistically win, using real eligibility rules and award data, and it gets sharper with every win-loss outcome it captures.

Match, scored not guessed
A community profile run against live federal, state, and utility rules. The output is a ranked, winnable shortlist and the best-funded mix of projects, not a directory dump.
Readiness, made measurable
Five pillars — data, planning, capacity, governance, and engagement — turned into a score and a punch-list so the application competes.
It sharpens with use
Who applied, who won, who lost, and why will build the win-probability record as outcomes accumulate. That record is the moat, and it cannot be scraped.
AI, used honestly
AI parses and drafts behind the scenes. Funding and eligibility calls stay on real data and an exact algorithm, with a human in the loop.

The core idea

Match, Ready, and Deliver turn a funding opportunity into a finished project. Grid-Ready is the engine under those three steps. The tabs below are the logic behind each one, not a second explanation of the same three points.

Analytics first

How we build the numbers

Funders score evidence, not promises. Every application we prepare is built on numbers a reviewer can check. The numbers make the funding case. Your engineer still owns the project design.

1

Gather

Twelve months of utility bills, a list of buildings with square footage, and any past audits or studies.

2

Baseline

We turn the bills into a load profile and compare each building's energy use per square foot against similar buildings using ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager.

3

Model the savings and cost

For each project on the list we estimate yearly savings, total cost and simple payback, then build the funding stack: grant, utility incentive and local share.

4

Calculate emissions

We estimate tons of CO2e avoided each year using EPA eGRID factors for the New England grid and standard fuel factors.

5

Check it

We reconcile the baseline to actual bills, a second person reviews every model, and we use the funder's own calculator whenever it has one.

6

Package it

The numbers go into the format and order the funder scores, so reviewers find what they need fast.

We don't design projects or write bid specifications. Your engineer does. We make sure the funding case behind their work is solid.

AI, used honestly

Optimization today. AI as the data earns it.

We use AI today to read dense funding rules into usable data and to draft faster. We claim AI capabilities only as the data to support them exists.

Data and an exact algorithm make the funding and eligibility calls, auditable, with a human in the loop. AI is operational only (parsing, drafting, routing), never the decision. As our outcome dataset grows, that same foundation can power the win-probability models that make each match stronger.

Our promise

How we stay independent

NexVerde works for the community. We help you win the funding. You run your own bids. We never write the rules, and we never pick the winner.

What we do

  • Find federal, state and utility programs you qualify for
  • Show you what's missing and help you fix it
  • Prepare your funding application and supporting paperwork

What we never do

  • Write your bid documents, project scope or specifications
  • Evaluate or score bids
  • Choose your contractor
  • Share your project details with any firm before your bid is public

How we're paid

  • Communities pay a fixed fee or retainer for full project work. Our first two steps are free.
  • Some delivery firms pay NexVerde a subscription for early notice of public bids.
  • We tell every client in writing which firms those are.
  • Paying firms get no inside information and no advantage. They bid like everyone else.
  • For private and nonprofit clients, a firm we introduce may pay NexVerde a referral fee. We always tell you before you meet them.

Questions about how we work? Ask us anytime. We'll put it in writing.

Your data stays yours

  • We use your energy data only for your project.
  • We never share it with vendors, installers or anyone else without your written permission.
  • We ask for read-only access, and we remove our access when the work ends.
  • Our vendor tools are built only from public records.
